Mathew Varghese Honored with TheOne International Humanitarian Award 2024

Dr. Mathew Varghese, Founder Trustee of CURE International India Trust and a celebrated orthopedic surgeon, has received the TheOne International Humanitarian Award 2024 from Rotary District 3450. This prestigious accolade recognizes his four-decade-long dedication to improving the lives of children in India suffering from preventable disabilities like polio and clubfoot.
Under Dr. Varghese’s guidance, CURE International India has revolutionized treatment for children with clubfoot, establishing 418 clinics across the country and providing free treatment to more than 112,000 children since 2009. Although retired since 2022, he remains actively involved, mentoring new surgeons and advocating for broader access to healthcare.
Speaking remotely while caring for his ailing mother, Dr. Varghese expressed his gratitude, stating:
“This award is not just for me but for the countless children whose lives will be changed. Our goal is to provide early, effective clubfoot treatment in every Indian district, ensuring no child suffers from preventable disabilities.”
The award was accepted on his behalf by Rtn. Raman Bhatia, Past District Governor of Rotary District 3011, who also nominated him.
