Warm Welcome to Freshers: Maitreyi College Hosts Vibrant Orientation Programme

Delhi, August 4, 2025 — Maitreyi College, University of Delhi, hosted a spirited Orientation Programme on August 4 to formally welcome its newly admitted students for the academic session. The event was held in the college auditorium and witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty, freshers, and student volunteers.
The programme was presided over by Vice-Principal, Professor Pinkey Bajaj Gandhi, along with distinguished faculty members including Dr. Anita Devi, Dr. Ghazala Ruhi, and Dr. Parul Yadav, convenors and co-convenors of the Student’s Union Advisory Committee. Their presence added to the significance of the occasion.
The event commenced on a traditional note with the ceremonial lamp-lighting, followed by a soulful rendition of Ganesh Vandana and the college Kulgeet, performed by Riyaaz, the Indian classical music society. In her address, Prof. Gandhi extended a warm and heartfelt welcome to the first-year students, encouraging them to embrace academic excellence and self-discovery during their time at Maitreyi.
A vibrant cultural programme followed, captivating the audience with performances by Nrityakriti, the Indian classical dance society. The group presented traditional dance forms including Kuchipudi Bhamakalapam and a devotional Ras Leela celebrating Lord Krishna. Further adding to the diversity of the occasion, Eeshaan, the North-East society, mesmerized the audience with a unique fusion of dances from Assam and Manipur, symbolizing India’s rich cultural tapestry.
The academic session was led by Prof. Poonam Juneja, who offered an insightful overview of the curriculum, guiding students on making informed choices for their academic journey. Faculty members also introduced key facilities such as the library, laboratories, Centre for Research, NCC, NSS, sports units, career guidance cell, and short-term courses, ensuring students were well-acquainted with all opportunities from day one.
Representatives from important student support bodies like the Student Council, Student Union, Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), and Placement Cell spoke about their roles in maintaining a supportive, inclusive, and student-driven campus environment.
The orientation ended on a high note with spirited interaction between students, faculty, and parents. The event not only welcomed the fresh batch with open arms but also instilled a sense of community and purpose, setting an inspiring tone for the academic year ahead at Maitreyi College.
